Q&A with ORCA!
We are super pumped to introduce ORCA to you! They are a nonprofit doing wonders for our beaches. We sent their main-man Kevin some questions so we could get to know them a little bit better, check out what he had to say!
What's your elevator pitch for ORCA?
Ocean Recovery Community Alliance (ORCA) is a nonprofit that puts on beach cleanups in New England. Since our first cleanup in July 2020 over 500 volunteers have collected more than 12,000 pounds of trash at our 28 cleanups. We collaborate with local business’s that align with our mission to keep our beaches clean, conduct ourselves with integrity, and provide special things for our volunteers at each cleanup. It’s all about service, stewardship, and community-building!
What’s your idea of a perfect day during a cleanup?
Sunny skies, light wind off the ocean, dozens of volunteers, caffeinated beverage from a local shop, and good vibes!
Why do you like using Allmade for your merch tee?
For us, using Allmade is a no brainer because there is perfect synergy between what Allmade does and what we do. We collect the plastic, they turn it into t-shirts! Allmade’s sustainable and environmentally responsible approach really makes it a win-win for us! Plus, they really are just comfortable, high-quality shirts and our volunteers love wearing them!
What's your favorite green practice you use on the reg?
My current green practice is using environmentally safe sunscreen when I’m doing cleanups or surfing.
What are ORCA's goals for 2021?
We want to start using different bagging for when we pick up the trash at our cleanups. Cutting out our use of plastic as much as we can. We also want to bring more Alliance members on board and solicit some donations to purchase an ORCA van to transport our cleanup equipment and use it to perform outreach and raise awareness about keeping the beaches and waterways clean!
Thank you ORCA for all that you do, and we look forward to seeing what you are up to next!
