Sustainability in Blank Apparel 2024: Progress, Challenges, and What’s Next

Thank goodness... Slowly but surely the blank apparel industry is undergoing a green revolution as sustainability becomes a driving force for both businesses and consumers.

But at Allmade, sustainability has been our mission from the start.

With eco-conscious practices shaping everything from materials to marketing (and with companies like Allmade) the industry is proving that fashion can be both stylish and responsible.

Allmade founders Mel Lay and Dom Rossacci sat down with Cassie Green from Apparelist and took a closer look at the big questions shaping this movement.

Here are five key takeaways:

  1. Sustainable Materials & Production: The blank apparel industry is increasingly using eco-friendly fabrics like organic cotton and recycled polyester, along with water and energy-saving innovations, to minimize environmental impact.

  2. Transparency & Certifications: Certifications like GOTS, Fair Trade, and carbon-neutral initiatives are now standard, ensuring more visibility and accountability in the supply chain.

  3. Circular Economy & Longevity: Take-back programs, recycling efforts, and durable, high-quality garments promote a “slow fashion” approach, reducing waste and extending the lifecycle of apparel.

  4. EPR Law Impacts: Extended Producer Responsibility laws, like California’s, push brands to manage product lifecycles, fostering material innovation and eco-friendly practices, despite compliance challenges for smaller businesses.

  5. Allmade’s Leadership in Sustainability: Allmade champions sustainability by using recycled and organic materials, achieving carbon neutrality, and promoting ethical manufacturing, setting a benchmark in the industry.

The Bottom Line: Sustainability is no longer an option for planet Earth and the fashion industry—it’s a necessity. With innovations in materials, manufacturing, and accountability, the future looks greener than ever. For brands like Allmade, it’s an exciting time to continue to lead the industry in sustainability, drive change, and inspire others to do the same.
