Turning Trash Into Treasure for National Recycling Day
In honor of National Recycling Day on November 15, 2024, we’re excited to share impactful statistics and highlight how we turn discarded materials into stylish, eco-friendly clothing, making it easy for you to be eco-conscious, too! By using organic cotton and recycled materials in factories powered by renewable energy, our goal is to inspire positive social change and show that apparel can be sustainable, stylish, and comfortable.
Together, we can turn trash into treasure and pave the way for a cleaner, greener planet.
The Problem of Plastic Waste
Did you know that in the United States alone, around 60 million plastic water bottles are discarded every day? This staggering figure adds up to roughly 22 billion bottles annually, with 70-80% ending up in landfills or polluting our environment. These statistics highlight the urgent need for effective recycling efforts and a shift from single-use plastics. Every piece of plastic that is not recycled contributes to the accumulation of waste in our landfills and oceans, emphasizing the importance of brands like Allmade that focus on sustainability.Allmade’s Impact
Since our inception in 2016, we’ve recycled approximately 51 million water bottles into our fabric and repurposed 39,317 pounds of cotton scraps into our Recycled Blend Fabric. By doing so, we’re helping to combat the estimated 14 million tons (or 28 billion pounds) of textile waste generated in the U.S. annually, of which 85% is disposed of in landfills. Our dedication to recycling minimizes waste but also transforms it into high-quality apparel you can feel good about wearing. The Future of Sustainable Fashion
The apparel industry has historically faced challenges with textile waste, with about 10-20% of fabric turning into waste during manufacturing. Unfortunately, only 15% of this waste is recycled or repurposed, with the majority ending up in landfills. This is why we focus on reducing waste and innovating our production processes. From recycling fabric scraps into new materials to utilizing technology for efficient cutting, we’re committed to a circular economy in fashion.
